Since AKD's inception in 1920, the aim of Alpha Kappa Delta has been to stimulate scholarship and academic networking. The purpose of the Lamar University AKD honor society is to promote academic success, professional networking, and scholarly goals, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the chapter aims to supports activities that further members education. The Society continues to recognize scholarly excellence in Sociology by inducting approximately 4,000 lifetime members each year.

The purpose of the Lamar University AKD honor society is to promote academic success, professional networking, and scholarly goals, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Student scholarship in Alpha Kappa Delta is recognized in several ways. The Society sponsors student travel to regional meetings, supporting those who want to present their own work and learn from the scholarly presentations of others. The Society sponsors annual professional symposiums, seminars, and scholarship.

Undergraduate Students
Students that are enrolled in a minimum of 9 Lamar University credit hours are eligible to rush Alpha Kappa Psi. Freshman with 12 credit hours earned and a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 are eligible for membership.

Transfer Students
Students that have transferred from another college or university to Lamar University are eligible to rush as long as they have earned 12 collegiate credit hours. First semester transfer students must provide a transcript that shows proof of hours transferred.

Graduate Students
Students that have been accepted into any graduate program at the Lamar University are eligible to rush. First semester graduate students must provide a transcript from the institution their undergraduate degree was earned.

All students must:

-Be currently enrolled at Lamar University
-Not be a member or former member of another professional business fraternity (Social, Service, and Honorary fraternity memberships are acceptable)
-Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 at Lamar University, transfer students must have a 2.5 from the institution from which the student is transferring
-Not be on academic probation the semester they wish to rush
-Express a firm intention of securing a degree from their desired field of study
-Be willing and able to pay all fraternity financial obligations promptly
-Be approved for rushing and invited to join the Fraternity by the members of the Kappa Tau Chapter

Any male student of an accredited college may be presented as a candidate for membership in a college chapter
provided that he:
• Attends an institution where an active chapter is located (Membership is not available for individuals attending
an online university that does not have a chapter seat. Membership is only available for individuals attending the
school where the chapter seat is located.)
• Has successfully completed one semester or two quarters of a regular year’s program
• Is a full-time student taking courses leading to his first academic degree
• Is in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of not less than 2.5 on a 4.0 grade point
scale or equivalent except where the minimum grade required by the college for graduation is greater; then the
minimum grade for graduation must be used for eligibility
• Is of good character
• Is registered to vote, if eligible and qualified
• Is sponsored by a member in good standing from the chapter in which the candidate is seeking membership
• Is recommended by a member in good standing from the chapter in which the candidate is seeking membership

Section 1. All Lamar University students, who are officially registered, faculty and staff who are interested in Mechanical Engineering are eligible for membership into the American Society of Mechanical Engineers at Lamar University/LIT.

Section 2. In order to be regarded as a regular member of ASME at Lamar University/LIT with voting privileges, a student must participate in at least two of the organization's sponsored functions per semester, maintain a 75% attendance record, and maintain good academic and judicial standing with Lamar University/LIT.
